CARES Act

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act Emergency Relief Grant Fund provides one-time, emergency financial aid assistance to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus. The CARES Act was signed into law March 27, 2020. These Awards were distributed to ߣߣÊÓÆµ students based on need as determined, in part, by Title IV eligibility with a focus on providing additional supports to students showing financial need.


ߣߣÊÓÆµ Financial Aid office calculated student awards and distributed these funds May 2020-March 2021. Those students who were eligible were notified via a letter through the U.S. Postal Service, as well as their ߣߣÊÓÆµ student email address. 

ߣߣÊÓÆµ has received supplemental grant funds pursuant to Section 314(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), Pub. L 116-260 as well as the grant funds herein pursuant to section 2003 of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) (Pub. L. 117-2) are governed by section 2003 of the ARP and section 314 of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) (Pub. L. 116-260).

ߣߣÊÓÆµ Financial Aid office calculated student awards and began distribution of these funds beginning March 31, 2021. Those students who were eligible were notified via a letter through the U.S. Postal Service, as well as their ߣߣÊÓÆµ student email address.

  1. Pursuant to section 314(d)(5) of the CRRSAA, ߣߣÊÓÆµ provided the same amount of funding in financial aid grants to students as was required to be provided under sections 18004(a)(1) and (c) of division B of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).
  2. ߣߣÊÓÆµ received $1,368,584 in CRRSAA funds, $5,614,001 in American Rescue Plan Act funds, and $1,368,584 in Supplemental Assistance to Institutions of Higher Education grants from the Department of Education pursuant to the Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students (PL 116-136 Title VIII Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act – Education Stabilization Fund 84.425E).
  3. ߣߣÊÓÆµ has distributed $1,366,681.85 to students under Section 314(a)(1) of CRRSAA as of June 30, 2022.
  4. ߣߣÊÓÆµ estimated 3,666 students were eligible to receive the Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the CRRSAA program.

The amount each student received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was determined based upon a formula factoring in the Estimated Family Contribution amount from FAFSA, number of hours enrolled and number of eligible students.   
  7. The following information has been provided to students via the ߣߣÊÓÆµ website on the COVID19 page as well through direct emails to the 2,351 initial recipients.  Additional correspondence has gone out to 976 students with potential eligibility, pending submission of FAFSA.

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act Emergency Relief Grant Fund provides a one-time, emergency financial aid assistance to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus. The CARES Act was signed into law March 27, 2020. These awards are being distributed to ߣߣÊÓÆµ students based on need as determined, in part, by Title IV eligibility with a focus on providing additional support to students. The ߣߣÊÓÆµ Financial Aid Office has calculated student awards and these are now being distributed via direct deposit or paper check.
