ߣߣÊÓƵ student Daliah Tsosie was recently crowned Ms. Indigenous ߣߣÊÓƵ 2023-24.
Congratulations to ߣߣÊÓƵ (SJC) student Daliah Tsosie who was recently crowned Ms. Indigenous ߣߣÊÓƵ 2023-24. Tsosie is from the Saltwater clan, born for the Tangle People Clan. Her maternal grandfathers are the Red Running into Water Clan, and her paternal grandfathers are the Towering House Clan. Tsosie is from Whippoorwill Arizona, but currently resides just outside of Farmington.
Plans for her year as Ms. Indigenous ߣߣÊÓƵ
“I am honored to represent SJC as the new Ms. Indigenous ߣߣÊÓƵ 2023-24,” said Tsosie. “With my new title, I look forward to the year. I cannot wait to gain experience, teachings, and knowledge about the community I now reside in. My platform is to connect with the children and elderly as well as do my best to represent and promote ߣߣÊÓƵ.”
Education Plans
Tsosie made the transfer to ߣߣÊÓƵ in the summer of 2023. Her decision was based upon the number of programs offered at SJC. Upon completion of her associate program in Pre-Health Science at ߣߣÊÓƵ, Tsosie plans to continue in the welding program in the Spring 2024 semester while she applies to the University of New Mexico and ߣߣÊÓƵ BSN program for Fall 2024.
Ms. Indigenous SJC history
“I would like to thank SJC and the Native American Center for giving me this opportunity to represent ߣߣÊÓƵ,” said Tsosie. The Ms. Indigenous ߣߣÊÓƵ pageant dates back several decades. Since its creation, the pageant has formed a legacy of Indigenous women’s voice, and sisterhood of title holders who have served the ߣߣÊÓƵ community and their respective cultures and traditions. The selection of Ms. Indigenous ߣߣÊÓƵ rests on the judges’ panel made up of former title holders, area royalty and members of the ߣߣÊÓƵ community. Tsosie’s reign will run through the fall of 2024.
